What keeps our family returning is the owners. They’ve always treated us like people, not transactions, and have gone out of their way to help us more than once over the years. Their care and pride show in how well the place is maintained. It’s never felt overdone or commercial, and it works really well for families. We fish, relax, unplug, and spend time together without the vacation feeling too short. We’ve been visiting Lake of the Woods for about twenty years, and it’s woven into our family’s story in so many ways. We look forward to the trip every year, and it still feels like a real vacation when we arrive. The setting among the trees is peaceful, with that cool, quiet Arizona mountain feel that helps you slow down. We’ve made a lot of memories here, and it’s one of the few traditions our family has kept for two decades. If you want a peaceful place run by people who care, this is it.

There’s a lot of room inside the large cabin we stayed in, and the bathrooms and kitchen were clean. The old carpeting in the main areas looked dirty, though, and the place could use updates. Our cabin was one of the larger ones by the highway, so it was noisy in the daytime but quiet at night, as expected. The kitchen lacked some cooking utensils, and there wasn’t a sponge, though there was a dishwasher. We also found the online photos limited, and the video gave us a different impression. We thought these were separate cabins, not three units stacked together. With dogs, that made things a little harder, but manageable. All in all, it was an okay place to stay.

I stayed here as a kid more than twenty years ago, and it’s still fun now that I’m a full-grown adult. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and super helpful. Our cabin was so cozy, and everything we needed was provided. My one suggestion would be to add a DVD player or VCR and a small movie collection for rainy days when you’re stuck inside.

The place has a lovely little lake, woods all around, and cabins spaced far enough apart for privacy. The geese greet you with open wings, and it brought back memories of summer camp. Our cabin, number 2, was a clean, rustic single room facing the lake, with a sink, refrigerator, and stovetop that looked like they came from the 1950s. You can hear traffic from nearby highway 260, though after a while we stopped noticing it because the setting was so beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. I’d like to come back, but this isn’t the spot if you’re looking for a fancy hotel.

Cabin 5 is a nice, clean studio with a lake view, though it could use some cleaning outside. Cobwebs covered all the windows we wanted to look through. There aren’t many supplies: just a couple of regular cups and coffee cups. On our first morning I tried to cook breakfast, but the only spatula was a huge barbecue one, which made it difficult. The freezer’s ice tray was tiny, like it belonged in a dollhouse, so we bought a couple of things at the dollar store while we were out the next day. We sat on the porch the first night with some adult beverages and a view of the lake. Just so you know, they provide a bar of soap but no shampoo or conditioner. Ask for a blow dryer if you need one, since there isn’t one in the cabin.
