Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Downtown

We had four people in a double-bed room and still had plenty of space, so the rooms are clean and spacious. The staff were all super friendly. When a small issue came up, they went above and beyond to sort it out with kindness and grace. The Downtown location is phenomenal, within walking distance of bars, restaurants, the convention center, Benendum, and lots more. I’ll definitely stay here again.

The room was decent, but the shower mat or flooring could use a replacement or a better cleaning. We stayed for the second time after a Pens game and were put beside the elevator, which ran noisily all night. Ask to move if that happens. The guy at the front desk said there wasn’t construction, but we could hear a truck’s reversing beep from outside from at least 4 am until we left around 5.

The downtown location worked well for our convention center game, and the staff seemed pleasant, but the service fell far short of what we paid: $1,600 for three nights, plus parking. We had booked a king room with a sofa bed for our son. There were no blankets for it, and although I called at 9 p.m. and was told one was coming, nobody showed by 10:30. My husband eventually went down to the lobby to get one. Breakfast cost extra, and both mornings were frustrating. On the first, I asked for berries with my oatmeal and got six or seven blueberries because they said strawberries were out. A moment later, my husband got strawberries with his French toast. The next day we arrived at 9:30, well before the front desk's confirmed 11 a.m. closing time, but the waitress said there was no food to serve. We ordered avocado toast and potatoes and waited almost an hour. The food came in takeout boxes even though we were eating there, with barely any avocado, apparently premade guacamole, and canned tomato slices. At that price, we expected better coordination and fresh food. We left very disappointed.

We were given a one bedroom suite, possibly the biggest hotel room I've ever had, but its view into the inner courtyard made the stay miserable. Several times, loud groups gathered there to smoke weed, and the room's heating units did little to keep out the noise or smell. I reported it more than once, but nothing changed. It happened late at night, early in the morning, and at other times during our stay. This was the worst hotel experience I've had in a long while, and I won't return.
