Hyatt Place Pittsburgh-North Shore

The breakfast was impressive, with plenty of simple, real, healthy food, and the room was very clean with a comfortable bed. The hotel is large and has an indoor pool. Its location right by the stadium is great, and most places downtown are reachable in about a 10-minute drive.

The mattress was comfortable and the location was excellent, but the noise went on all night and made it impossible to get decent sleep, wiping out any benefit from the bed. The property felt worn and shabby, and cleanliness was poor. The fitness room was oppressively hot and had broken equipment. Hot water also seemed inadequate for the number of guests. Anyone showering after 9 a.m. will likely find it runs out. Parking was frustrating too. People parked haphazardly in undesignated spots, blocking other cars, and there was no enforcement. We had to track down strangers to move their vehicles just to leave. Management should address that. I’d stay somewhere else.

I was here on a business trip arranged by USPS. The staff were nice, the room was great, and I liked the location. My only complaint is that I was billed $6 for a bottle of water neither my guest nor I drank. I contacted them a couple of times about it, but it never got resolved and eventually I forgot.

The room’s cleanliness was a total letdown compared with my last visit 12 years ago, when this hotel was great. The furniture needs to be replaced: the couch cushions were flattened from too much use, and there were drink stains on the glass tabletop. There were signs of black mold on the bathroom walls and in the crevices. The room was so dry it was hard to breathe overnight. The AC vents had caked-on dust. I tried wiping them with a wash rag, but housekeeping could see that and still didn’t clean them. This is basic cleaning. Management clearly doesn’t make cleanliness a priority. Do better. The location is ideal for sporting events, with a cute row of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Service was alright and the staff were friendly, though I don’t have much else to say about them.
