The Elliott Hotel at Highland Park

The house was under active repair, with a hole in the wall, paint cans and drips in the vestibule, and ripped, sagging wallpaper. The couch was dirty and heavily discolored, and the bedroom TV didn’t work. I stayed in May 2024, and the property manager was unreachable, with no phone number, and never sent the access code. Both keycode boxes, at the main door and the inner room, were broken or had dead batteries, so the doors wouldn’t lock. We had to brace a table inside at night for safety and couldn’t leave anything in the room when we went out. It felt like a scam. The house is in a gentrifying neighborhood called SLiberty (East Liberty), known for crime and drugs.

I was here briefly for a UPMC travel contract and would gladly come back. The house was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and it had all the amenities that made it feel homey. After a raindrop shower, the warm robe was an especially nice touch. The location worked perfectly, and I didn’t have to deal with traffic.

The place looks abandoned, with an eight-foot pile of trash along the side of the building. The phone number only reaches a blank voicemail. I booked through hotels.com, but they refused to refund me and said it wasn’t their problem, so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company.

We showed up at 10 pm and found a tenant already occupying the room. It felt extremely shady. Another resident said this scam had been going on for over a month, yet the listing was still on Expedia.
