The worst part was finding a roach in the bathroom. I killed it and told the staff, who seemed pretty indifferent. There were warning signs from the moment we walked in: one light was flickering and another was completely out. The continental breakfast was awful, with greasy, lukewarm sausage, eggs that seemed like the reconstituted kind you make with water, and very little selection. At least there were nearby places to eat. Comfort Inn and Quality Inns have declined a lot in quality and service over the past few years. I’m done with Choice Hotels and extremely disappointed.

The beds were comfortable, and the hotel was quiet, with maybe seven guests total. But the advertised amenities were a letdown: the vending machines and laundry equipment had out-of-order signs, despite the listing promising those facilities and a full hot breakfast. A hot shower wasn’t really possible either, since more water came out behind the shower head than from the front. Baseboards were hanging off the walls, and the ceiling above the shower was peeling. We were there during a snow event with about 6-8 inches of snow, and the parking lot hadn’t been plowed.

We couldn’t switch rooms, and the staff didn’t seem to acknowledge the condition of ours or offer a solution. It smelled strongly of dampness and mold, and after just two nights the smell had settled into our clothes. There was visible mold in the bathroom and on the ceiling, rust on all the metal, coffee and other liquid splashes on the wall, and ants coming through holes at the base of the wall. The carpet wall base had peeled off completely, likely from the dampness. I wiped the splashes away with a little water, so it was clear no one had tried to clean them. We asked for the walls and visible shower mold to be cleaned, but didn’t even get daily housekeeping to change towels or take out trash, although that’s normally included. Maybe the hotel really was full, but if you can’t find somewhere else nearby, just sleep in your car.

We checked for bed bugs and thankfully found none, but the rest of the stay was appalling. The rooms for me and my family didn’t look like they’d been deep cleaned in years. The bathroom floors were filthy, and the rest of the floors seemed coated in layers of grime, so I kept my socks on. The toilet was peeling so badly I wouldn’t sit all the way down. Both beds had greasy-looking stains on their comforters, so we slept with just the sheets. There was more: vents covered in fuzz, carpet trim pulled away from the wall with nails sticking up, and a frayed, shredded transition between tile and carpet. My sister’s room also had nails sticking up. I could keep listing problems. I should have slept in the car. This was completely unacceptable, and the hotel needs to be shut down.
