Econo Lodge Near Plymouth State University

The room and beds were clean, the staff very polite, and breakfast was totally fine. After seeing a few not-so-great reviews, I was a little nervous, but the price was great and everything turned out well. Only positive things to say! I just wish I'd had cash to leave a room tip.

For $220 a night, I expected a lot better. The exterior was very run down, with no care given to the landscaping and trash all around the front. A lot of things were broken, and the pool was closed on a hot July day, even though their website and Expedia.com had advertised that it was open. The kids were totally bummed. The beds were clean and it was pet friendly, which were the only pluses. The woman at the desk was nice, but afraid of dogs. I'm not sure why you'd hire someone who's scared of dogs for a pet-friendly hotel.

At breakfast, the receptionist was on his phone, the area was a shocking mess, and waffle mix was caked in the machine and burning. The vending machines were all empty. We also had a cigarette smell in our supposedly non-smoking room. When we arrived, I gave my name and the receptionist held a paper up to the glass with another guest's information on it. After finding my form, nobody asked me to show ID. In the first room, neither the TV nor remote worked. We called for help, and the receptionist yelled for us to come to the front for another key. When I asked if we needed our bags, she shouted and laughed, “Well if you need a new room you're going to need your bags hahaha.” The remote didn't work in the replacement room either. The room walls looked like an old school hallway, marked and dirty, with water stains. There was mold on the tub faucet, and the door looked as if it had been kicked in. We didn't feel safe. I'd stayed here before, and it was nothing special, but it had never been this bad. I won't mind if I never see this place again.

The beds were hard, and there was only a thin blanket, no comforter. The rooms are a good size and clean, with the sink outside the bathroom. There's no coffee maker in the room, though coffee is available in the lobby around the clock. It's a good spot for getting around Plymouth, and fairly quiet despite being on a main road. The staff were friendly. We visited during renovations, so the lobby was a disaster, but it should look nice when the work is finished. The new landscaping is a significant improvement.
