Holiday Inn Express Pocomoke City

Sandy was especially thoughtful after checkout, warming up a platter of food for us to take along as we got ready to travel. We were traveling with my senior mother, and Annisa and Sandy at the front desk had been welcoming and attentive, including arranging a late checkout. Lisa greeted us with a smile each morning at the breakfast bar and made sure we had what we needed. There was a fresh breakfast with lots of choices. We had a good stay, and appreciate the hospitality from the whole team.

We were in town for a wedding and stayed two nights. The hotel was very clean, and breakfast items stayed well stocked. The front desk was accommodating as plans changed and more people arrived, left, or didn't show, booking and canceling rooms to suit our needs. We could have used more towels in the rooms. The cleaning staff looked miserable and didn't return our smiles, so a little more cheer from them would have been nice. Still, I'm becoming a fan of the Best Western Plus franchise.

The pool was the biggest letdown. Its heater was broken, just as it had been when I visited a little over a year earlier, despite being told then that it would be fixed. The manager checked the temperature and said a repair call would be placed, but it was too cold and the floor looked dirty, like it hadn't been vacuumed. I couldn't use it, and wasn't offered compensation. Breakfast had its own problems: the orange juice machine had an out-of-order sign, which the manager said had simply been left up by mistake, and she offered me juice after breakfast was already over. The pancake machine was down the first morning, though both machines worked the next day. The attendant was kind and kept the area clean. Also, the first-floor ice maker didn't work, so I had to ask at the desk and go upstairs for ice. That machine worked, and there was a well-stocked soda and snack vending machine nearby. The TV channel directory on channel 2 didn't match the actual channels, and the remote was confusing, even for someone in IT. My room itself was clean, with a modern bathroom, good HVAC, small fridge, microwave, and a suitably sized TV. Staff were nice, the manager attentive, and breakfast was mostly good. Still, after I discussed the issues with the manager, I got no compensation for the pool, juice sign, or pancakes. Two out of five stars. The pool needs cleaning, the ice and breakfast equipment need attention, and the stay fell short.

The location is great and the people are nice. Rooms were clean, though it felt a bit pricey for a remote city.
