Castle Kiahuna Plantation Resort And The Beach Bungalows

The condo was dated and dirty. The bathroom floor was filthy, the blanket was stained, and grease had built up in layers on the kitchen range handles. There was no AC, so we left the windows open, but the wind blew through so hard and made so much noise that sleeping was impossible. The windows only had screens and plantation shutters. The sofa bed mattress was missing the bed board that would make it firmer. Not recommended. I'm surprised Costco uses this location.

We had a great stay in late February 2026. The front desk responded quickly, and the huge outdoor gym was nice. The pool has a slide. The jacuzzi didn't work half the time, but we were happy with everything else. We also liked the restaurant across the street, where the pool and gym are located. We tried the shrimp tacos, which were pretty good, but the drinks weren't.

Kauai is beautiful, and there are better places to stay. Like several other reviews mention, this place isn't fully upfront about costs. I was caught by hidden "cleaning" fees that weren't listed at first. By the time I saw them while booking through Agoda, it was too late, and neither the hotel nor Agoda was willing to do anything about it.

We'd stayed here several times before and always liked it, but this trip was different. After traveling from Utah, we found cockroaches in the room on our first morning. We called the front desk right away, but they didn't offer another room. They said they'd send pest control and gave wet weather as an excuse. With the airline situation and the difficulty of finding somewhere else, we felt trapped. We dealt with cockroaches in the room two more times during the stay. I told the desk the $377 cleaning fee seemed ridiculous when the room wouldn't have had cockroaches if it had been cleaned. We started checking the room closely and noticed it needed upkeep and had a lot of poor maintenance. We then learned there was no housekeeping, something nobody had told us. A lot had changed since our previous visits: rates were up, which wasn't a surprise; there was a cleaning fee but no cleaning; there was no housekeeping, which was a surprise; and there were cockroaches, which was another surprise. Management really didn't seem to care.
