Royla Motel

Roaches kept crawling out of the hole in the wall where the TV mount was, and nothing we tried, including bug spray, stopped them. The room was so dirty that walking barefoot from the bathroom left dirt prints on the stained bedsheets. We paid $100 for one night, but staff provided only one towel per room and no soap or shampoo. The owner or manager was rude once paid. He just pointed and said “you go” when we asked questions. The manager tried to make us leave at 9:30 a.m., saying it was “room cleaning time,” even though checkout was 11 and we’d said we weren’t leaving until 10:30. He told his daughter he didn’t want us there anymore, then opened our locked door around 10 a.m. and tried to get in to make us leave. As we walked down the street, he followed us, yelling that we’d taken the TV remote. Hey bro, you ruin my day, I ruin your day. Seems fair, right?

The room smelled of garbage and cigarettes, and someone had written on the wall. They tried to charge me a $200 deposit and wouldn’t offer a refund. I was there for just five minutes before leaving. Don’t book a room here.

There’s a church across the street and a great taco place nearby, but that didn’t make up for the stay. For what we paid, I wasn’t expecting much, just not all the cockroaches in the room. It smelled bad and was dirty. The gritty floor stained the socks I wore so I wouldn’t have to touch it. There was one stained towel for two of us. When I asked for another, the clerk said no, we only got one. Then at 6:30 a.m. he banged on the door to bring us a towel and startled us awake. I grew up around truckers and have stayed in plenty of bad places, but in 50 years of traveling I haven’t had worse motel service or stayed somewhere worse.

The room sheets had blood and other gross stains, and the towels were dirty. When I asked for clean ones, the manager said he had to get them from the laundromat, so I had no towels to shower with. The advertised “42 inch flat screen TV” never worked. I reported it as soon as I checked in around 2 p.m. They came to fix it four times, each time telling me to wait five minutes. I waited 45 minutes, then kept trying to get help until 10 p.m. I asked for a refund because the TV didn’t work and the bedding was stained, but they refused because I’d used the room, even though I’d been trying to get the TV fixed since I arrived. The online price said $59, but the manager tried to charge $95. When I asked for a discount because of the broken TV, he said no and claimed he’d already discounted it to $70. The staff were rude and yelled while I tried to sort things out. I’ve never been this disappointed in a motel. Someone could catch something here.
