Shores Resort

We came here after a sudden personal setback, while our home was being worked on and we tried to sort out a longer term plan. We were on a tight budget and had just been stuck in some really rough hotels with drug use, gangs, and prostitution. A friend pointed us to this place, and I’m so glad he did. We love it enough that we’ve decided to stay until our home is ready. It’s a quiet little place, with thick walls and the ocean sounds making it peaceful. The guests are pleasant, it’s right by the beach, and the family business has a close community feel. Even the rates seem surprisingly affordable compared with other hotels. From the start, owner Norman made us feel welcome when we were going through a difficult housing situation. He’s professional, direct, good at hospitality and business, and dealing with him has been a pleasure. I feel valued here. Luz, the cleaner, is so friendly I’ve come to think of her as my second mother, it’s a Spanish thing 😂. She’s very thorough, and our rooms have been immaculate. Thomas, the maintenance man, is attentive, friendly, knows his stuff, and has a good sense of humor. Everyone on staff has treated me with respect and made me feel welcome at an important time in my life, when I’m often ridiculed for how I express myself. Whether you’re staying briefly or for a while, especially on a budget, this place has been wonderful for us.

City of Pompano Beach, please inspect Shores Terrace Hotel. I found rat droppings in the carpet, and that was the point when I decided I couldn’t stay. There was mold, broken tile, cigarette odor, and dirty sheets. The kitchen meant for cooking was rusty and moldy, and seemed out of line with health standards. The owner knows about these problems and has done nothing to fix them for guests. I had a horrible experience. The owner came across as arrogant and uncaring. I’m asking the city to take action, even shut the place down, so it doesn’t keep getting away with these conditions.

I first started staying here for work back in May of 2018, and ended up spending almost two years here. Norman, one of the owners, has gone above and beyond to make me comfortable at Shores Terrace, and I’m grateful to him from the bottom of my heart. He’s one of the most trustworthy people I’ve met and is willing to help anyone having a hard time.

The price was good, but that’s about the only positive. The reservation listed one king bed, two double beds, and two pullout sofas, but there was no king bed. The microwave didn’t work, and there was no mop or broom, so I had to buy one at Dollar Tree. The shower walls had a greasy film. The office stayed closed the whole time we were there, and we found the keys on top of the microwave. She had shown us the apartment before I gave her my information, but they had already charged us for one day.
