Holiday Inn Express gave me the kind of hometown welcome I remember from Port Arthur. I’ve been coming back to visit for more than 15 years, and this Christmas I got to enjoy seafood, barbecue, grilled food, and boudain. Diana at the desk was upbeat and eager to help. Karla and Mirian were wonderful, too, and I saw the manager encouraging her team through the busy holiday stretch. My childhood home is gone, and Thomas Jefferson high school has changed since I graduated in 1979. This little hotel still has that genuine, small oil town customer service, without fancy titles. The staff made my trip and Christmas at home special. Thank you all.

I booked two queen beds but was given a single king in an accessible room, even though I don’t need that room. The safety latch had nothing to hook onto, and the fan didn’t work. My IHG preferences were ignored, and no one welcomed or acknowledged me as a member. Breakfast was badly overcooked, and the staff hardly spoke to me. Very disappointing. There are better places about 5 to 10 minutes away.

I was put on the fourth floor, where the hallway shows water damage from a roof leak. There’s a strong mold and mildew smell, and they refused to move me to another floor.

I called to arrange a site visit next week about a block of more than 50 room nights for an event next year. They said they were too busy to meet and didn’t like doing site visits. Understood. I won’t contact them about future business.

Just one night here. The room was modern, clean, and quiet, with fresh linens and a very comfortable bed. The receptionists were friendly and helpful.
