Old Alcohol Plant Hotel

We paid $360 for the suite and another $75 for dinner, which we couldn't eat. After the food had sat on the table for a few minutes, we found ants in it. The front desk was closed, and I started feeling a little ill, so I went to bed. My husband stayed up watching TV for a while and kept flicking ants off himself, hoping they were only in the downstairs seating area. But once he came to bed, there were ants all night, and we kept brushing them off both of us. I told the front desk at checkout. They gave us a 10% discount and the GM's number. When I called first thing Monday, I was told she was in meetings all day. It's been a week, and there's still no refund in my account. The GM hasn't made this right or made it possible for me to reach her about a solution. If you don't mind ants in your food or bed, or on you, maybe it's a five-star place. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay here or recommend it to anybody.

The grounds and location are beautiful, and the hotel is an interesting old building with lots of lovely historical photos. Our room, 302, was clean, though it had a strong bleach smell that cleared quickly once we opened the window. The main problem was the bed: half of it had a deep, roughly 4-inch depression that got worse when I lay down, leaving that side unusable. I told the front desk, and they apologized but didn't offer a fix. The restaurant had great service, and the food's flavors and presentation were good, though my steak was overdone.

I've brought several people to stay at the Old Alcohol Plant, and they enjoyed it too. It's my favorite hotel around here. The beds are comfortable, the staff are wonderful, and the restaurant is reasonably priced and good. The water views are beautiful.

The garden by the water is gorgeous, but the inside of the hotel was a letdown. Old is fine, but the place was dirty, with mold and stained carpets and walls. For the prices they charge, the owners should be ashamed. Dinner was only okay, the service was awful, and the flies were really annoying. I ordered a wedge salad, but they brought a different salad. When I pointed it out, the waitress argued that it was what I'd ordered instead of apologizing and fixing it. She was unpleasant for the rest of the meal. All around, it was a bad place to stay. I don't recommend it and won't be back.
