Admiral Farragut Inn

Rick and the staff looked after us really well. The room was clean, the price was good, and breakfast was excellent, all with Newport’s historic charm. I can’t see why anyone would rate this under four stars. For me it’s a five. If you want a standard hotel, the Marriott is down the road, but for attentive care, this is the place. Perfect!!!!

We left feeling uneasy about both the condition of this Inn and our safety. The wiring and smoke detectors made us wonder whether everything met safety standards, and it looked like little money had gone into upkeep. I wouldn’t recommend staying here at any price. The host was proud of the King room, but it didn’t match his description. The chairs and area rug badly needed cleaning, black mold lined the shower edges and some tiles, and the whole place felt dirty and neglected. Even the entryway floors were filthy. It needs to close for a rebuild, or at least a remodel, before being rented again.

The breakfast was amazing, and it was handy having parking on site. Staff were attentive and caring, and the place is close to downtown. We’ll come back!

We like staying here when we visit Newport, even though it’s been a few years since our last trip. The rooms have a rustic feel, and the sink is in the bedroom, so you have to be okay with that. The setting is lovely and the details are thoughtful. Breakfast is a nice little bonus, just remember to place your order the night before and say when you want it.
