The house cleaner deserves credit, because the room was nice. The pool situation, though, was alarming. It was supposed to open at 6am, and I got in around 6:30. There was no sign on the door then. I stayed about an hour before noticing a sign had appeared saying the pool was closed by the health department for multiple violations, active as of May 14th or 19th. Someone had posted it while I was swimming and didn't say anything to me. Later, around 3pm, I got locked out of my room. My fiancé's ID was on file, and staff said a confirmation number would help. I gave it to them, then they asked for him to join a video call with his ID. I did that, but they then said he had to be there in person. He was at work until later that night, and his boss, who booked the hotel, knew I was staying there. I kept trying to sort it out and was transparent with them. I live two hours away, he had my car, and I had no way to leave. They repeatedly told me we could resolve it if I did something, then changed their answer once I did it. I tried to get someone to come for me so I wouldn't be sitting in the lobby. I sat quietly in the dining area, away from the desk. Around 9pm, they told me to leave. When I asked if there was anything we could do, a man verbally attacked me, calling me a bum and a liar and saying I wasn't a guest. I panicked. I'm a young woman two hours from home, with no car or wallet and a dying phone. I told him a DoorDash charger was due in ten minutes and asked if I could wait so I could contact someone. He yelled about how bad and embarrassing it looked, then refused and told me to get out. I went to an enmarket, where they let me charge my phone, then I paid for the charger. I called 411 to explain my non-emergency situation so I wouldn't get in trouble for soliciting, and they said it was out of their hands. I understand they can't have people sitting around, but I had checked in the night before, had confirmation and ID numbers, followed each step they gave me, and tried to be compliant. They still insulted me. My things were left locked in a hotel room two hours away.
The waffles were great, and the woman working breakfast was very kind. We had trouble with the batter dispenser, but she went out of her way to help. Breakfast overall was decent. The pool was open, which my wife and daughter had been looking forward to, but the supposedly room temperature water was ice cold. My daughter and I couldn't get past waist deep, so we spent most of our time in the hot tub. We were traveling with my handicapped mother-in-law and called ahead to request an accessible first floor room. My wife was told no problem, but when we arrived a couple hours later, we learned this Country Inn has no accessible rooms. They could only offer a two queen room. At least we could get her scooter inside, and we were just staying overnight. The room was decent, but smelled like corn chips and feet, and the toilet seat lid was partly broken. We were right beside what looked like a tractor trailer wash, and at 3 in the morning we heard a truck's backup beeper for about 15 minutes. I wasn't happy that we were told we'd have an accessible room, and the hotel was decent at best. Fine for a night or two, but I wouldn't spend a whole vacation here.
I always get a nice welcome here, and the rooms are consistently clean. It's a convenient halfway stop between Florida and Virginia, where I need to go. They're pet friendly, with a $50 deposit, which is understandable. Breakfast is decent, especially the biscuits and gravy, and the coffee is great. I'll stay again another week.
My biggest concern was the pool area after closing. The pool closes at 10, and we support enforcing that time. We were still drying off at 10, and other guests and kids were still in the pool and hot tub. Then all the lights went out, leaving everyone to cross an unfamiliar, slippery concrete floor in the dark with no warning. Enforcing pool hours is fine, but that was unsafe. The rooms were clean. The window shade wasn't aligned with the window, though, so the parking lot spotlight shone straight into the room all night.
We came for the weekend hoping to see snow, and we did. The employees were friendly and the room was perfect. Even with the train and trucking place nearby, it was peaceful, without the loud noise mentioned in earlier reviews. The pool was cold, which I expected in that weather, but the hot tub was amazing during the short time we used it. Hopefully we'll be back.
