The room was clean, but run down and in need of a major overhaul, with very worn furnishings. I stayed one night in room 208. The bed felt a little too hard for me, and the bathroom fan was so loud it didn't clear the humidity at all. The price wasn't too bad, but breakfast was disappointing. We went down at 9:15, before service ended at 10, and the eggs and sausage were cold with nobody tending the food. You can hear a train whistle from the room. I bet this was a beautiful place to stay 50 years ago. Probably won't be back.

A quiet, cozy little place that's kind of tucked away. The rooms are a decent size and clean, though they could smell better, like the hallways do. Beds were okay, but could be softer.

My parents and I have agreed this is our place to meet halfway between Ohio and Wisconsin. We come several times a year and wanted somewhere consistent. I was nervous about booking because one review mentioned there are no elevators, and that's true, but they gladly gave us a room on the lobby level. The place feels homey and nostalgic, with really cool antiques throughout. Everything was clean and updated while keeping its historic charm. It's not the Hilton, so if you want everything brand new and contemporary, it may not be for you. We love it and would absolutely recommend it.

We had a wonderful time and plan to come back, maybe to try one of the rooms with hot tubs. The staff were friendly, and our room was comfortable and clean. There was a sauna, a pool, and a small workout room, which made the stay really enjoyable. It's always quiet, with a beautiful area and a balcony with a view. We also enjoyed the food from the bar and grill. One of the coolest places I've stayed.

We were really impressed with our Halloween weekend stay in 2025. We picked this hotel for its wooded, beautiful setting and its location near the South Shore Line for an easy train ride to Chicago, as well as Indiana Dunes National Park. It felt like we'd found a lovely secret. The inn is older, and you may hear kids running in the halls at 11 pm, so it may not suit you if you want a brand new hotel. But it's affordable, well maintained, and close to Indiana Dunes, and a great place for families. The rooms were spacious, warm, and cozy, with comfortable beds as described, good shower pressure, and hot water that never ran out. Every room has a charming large balcony. The staff were amazing. Everyone seemed to care about guests, their safety, and keeping the inn in good shape. We swam in the indoor pool, which was shockingly clear and clean, and used the sauna. It was so relaxing after a long day walking around Chicago. On Halloween night, we borrowed matches from the front desk and used the cut, dry, stacked wood at the outdoor fire pit. A spooky, fun way to end the day. Breakfast was clean, well stocked, and perfectly adequate. Uno Pizza, basically attached to the hotel, was delicious and had lots of menu choices.
