Cameo Motel - Portland

For a motel on NE 82nd, the rooms are about what you'd expect, but the nightly rates are the highest too. It wouldn't be my first or second choice.

I only spent five hours in the room and found a huge cockroach on the wall. The bathroom water never got hot, the carpet was stained, and the TV was very outdated. When I asked for my money back, the woman wanted to argue. This place is way overpriced, maybe worth $20 a night. The front desk staff were extremely hostile and rude. The owner also lets his son hang out in front with his friends, who all looked like pimps or drug dealers to me. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares about sanitation. Negative one star. This place should be condemned.

I needed a room at the last minute, and the woman at the front desk was great. The room looked beautiful and was spotless. I messed up the key cards a few times, but they replaced them right away without hesitation. I'd stay here again and recommend the motel. Also, the little big boss has a smooth haircut.

We ended up taking our business elsewhere. With the storm leaving cars abandoned, the roads blocked, and people freezing outside without a way home, we needed somewhere warm, especially for my kids. I found this hotel online through Booking. Even though I had a Mastercard and could book online, the man at the desk wanted $150 in cash. I asked if I could put the cash deposit on the card and get the cash in a few hours, once things reopened, but he said the sign on the window said cash deposits only and there was nothing he could do. I hadn't seen that sign online. He told me, “Get a room tomorrow.” No help at all. Given the circumstances, I was willing to pay more than the online price just to get out of the cold. It felt plainly cruel.
