Candlewood Suites Portland Airport by IHG

Kenzie was kind, courteous, and gave me lots of useful information. Check-in was quick and painless, and the clean rooms smelled really nice. The location is great for getting to and from the airport.

I travel a lot, and this was the worst experience I've had. I picked the hotel because it was close to the airport and offered a free shuttle, since I was staying less than 12 hours. I called ahead to check the schedule, but was left at the airport at almost 11 p.m. because the driver had gone home early. When I finally reached my room, the AC kept blowing or making noise all night, even after I switched it off, so I couldn't get a good night's rest. The next morning, the shuttle driver didn't look at me or say a word. I wasn't sure it was the right shuttle until the front desk confirmed. He opened the doors across the parking lot and left me to load my suitcase and board. I don't mind carrying my own bag, but I've never had such rude service. At the airport he just opened the back door again. An elderly woman boarding after me also had to lift her own suitcase into the van. Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of airport hotels to choose from, and surely any of them are better.

The room was beautiful, and the hotel felt elegant. Evening front desk staff gave amazing service, but the next morning the three staff members seemed stressed and overwhelmed. My toilet didn't work, they missed my wake-up call, and although I'd arranged a 5:45 shuttle, none was ready until 6.

The location is the one drawback, right off Airport Way, though Cascade Station mall is nearby. I felt reassured by the night security guard, who kept walking the whole parking lot again and again. It put my worries about vandalism or someone prowling cars to rest. The hotel is really nice and the rooms are great. Mine had a basic full closet, full-size fridge, two-burner stove, microwave, dishwasher, and all the basic dishes. Best of all, you can rent several cooking appliances. The fitness center is open 24 hours, and laundry is free, though you have to bring your own detergent and fabric softener. Every staff member I've dealt with has been extremely friendly and helpful. This is so close to a five for me, I'd give it 4 7/8 if I could.
