We picked the Hi-Lo for our anniversary after finding cheaper rates nearby. We chose to pay extra, and were very happy to spend it here. The staff alone were worth the premium, and we'll keep coming back. I hope you get to experience the difference they make. 10/10. We'd stayed at another Autograph Collection hotel in a different state, where we both work, and the discount was appealing. We also wanted to see what the other properties in the collection were like. When we arrived for our first trip together in August, all we could say was, “Wow.” The building impressed us, as did the convenient location and the exceptional staff. Sam at the front desk was incredible. We both work in hotels and interact with front desk staff many times a day, and Sam stood out among the team at the Hi-Lo and in our experience at other hotels. Service is what holds a hotel together. Even a beautiful historic building can become a nightmare if you can't get extra towels or help when the blinds break. We had no trouble getting that kind of help during our stay. The staff were incredible, and the hotel and location made it even better.

We had a lovely three-day staycation for our minimoon and would absolutely come back. The room was beautiful and cozy, and we found parking across the street for $26 a day with in-and-out privileges. We ate well nearby: oysters at Dan & Louise during happy hour, good sushi at Kai zen sushi, and the best empanadas of my life from the food cart court up the street at El Pilon. The Muji store was a highlight, too. At the hotel's Craftpdx, breakfast was great and the lunch burger was wonderful, with attentive service. My little complaint is the bathroom. There's an uncaulked edge by design, so water spills over to the tub, and the only hook was missing. Why not just caulk that flaw and replace the hook?

I loved my stay and will definitely come back. The restaurant downstairs was excellent, and the location was ideal. The rooms were stylish but also exceptionally comfortable, with thoughtful design throughout. Whoever came up with the design deserves a standing ovation. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

We were disappointed by the stay. The staff weren't friendly or welcoming, which made things uncomfortable, and parking was a major inconvenience because there was none. We also had to pay a mandatory $60 travel/service fee per room for amenities we never used. When we asked for coffee, we were told the machine was broken. With the extra fees and the high rating, this wasn't worth it.

We felt safe in the area, even late at night, and hardly saw anyone on the streets. There are some interesting characters around, as you'd expect in a big city, but they kept to themselves. The room was clean, spacious, and quiet. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The location made it easy to walk to sights, restaurants, and cafes, and there are lots of public transit stops nearby. We had a wonderful stay and will come back on future trips to Portland.
