The rooms were gorgeous compared with other extended stay America locations, though I assume that's because this one used to be a Best Western. I was still very disappointed by the staff and the trouble I had, which made the stay hard to enjoy. I'm a traveling healthcare professional and stayed about three weeks for work, until my job told me I couldn't stay there anymore because of the ongoing problems with hotel staff and management. Even though I'd submitted a card authorization form, I was told while at work that my belongings would be removed if I didn't leave and pay. They then charged a different card from the one on the form. Later, during the same three-week stay, they added a “late fee” for checkout even though I was staying in the same room. Management had assured me there wouldn't be a fee, but it was taken without my authorization when I entered my card to pay the rest. I raised it right away, and the manager got up, told another associate “you deal with this,” and walked away. A few guests in the lobby said they'd had similar problems and found management less than acceptable. I was also questioned and doubted about my disability after telling them I had a service dog, even though I had the necessary paperwork. For guests staying for weeks, I'd have expected more consideration.

The shower pressure was decent. That's about the only positive I can think of. We had a musty smell in both rooms that wouldn't go away, the beds were the usual overly firm hotel kind, and there were no plugs on or beside the nightstands. We had to pull the bed out to plug in a CPAP. The included “breakfast” was one of the worst spreads I've seen in a long time, just mini yogurts, muffins, and oatmeal packets. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I booked a room with two beds for five people without any trouble, but check-in became a hassle. The desk clerk seemed tired and overwhelmed, though she checked us in. After we got our things from the car, she asked how many people were staying. I said five, as listed in the booking, and then she said that was an issue because five exceeded the fire code for one room and I needed to book another. That was frustrating. I asked to book at the desk using my military discount, but she couldn't do it with the discount and said I had to book online. The website wouldn't let me book same-day, so I called. The sales rep said his system was down and to call back for someone else who could help. I called three more times and kept getting the same rep with the same answer. I gave up on the discount and booked at the desk. The key didn't work. The next key didn't either, and the clerk made a third and came along to try it, but that failed too. They moved me to a different room.

This is currently an Extended Stay America, so use the ESA app. I've stayed at other ESA properties, and this one has been updated. The bathroom has a lighted mirror and a higher, timed bulb for showers. The mattress was awful on one side, though, so we turned it around and put the sunken part at our feet. It's good value, and I liked taking my dog for walks around the Delta Park area. There's a gas station nearby where lots of homeless people are looking for cans to earn money, but they keep to themselves and don't bother anyone. For food, Kenton is close and easy to reach without dealing with highway traffic. It's a cute area with a nice park nearby. There's also a food truck lot out front, though not all the trucks are open yet. Once the construction is finished, I can see it being a draw. The boba teas are wonderful! For a long stay, make sure the right card is on file. I used one card for the reservation and another at check-in, so I had to check with the front desk to make sure they used the correct one. Towels are available when you need them. And if you want the “free breakfast,” food is first come, first served and gone by 7 AM. Coffee runs out by 9 AM, so early birds get it.

The room itself was clean and came with the basics, like shampoo, a plate, a knife, and a fork. The TV was good too, but it all felt like the bare minimum. What really let the stay down was the very sparse breakfast. There were only a few items, without even a plate or milk, which was disappointing and below what I expected. The area around the inn also didn't feel comfortable, with a lot of homeless people nearby, though the inn is fenced and secure.

The staff made this a memorable stay. The manager, maybe Bill, though I can't remember his name for sure, went out of his way to help us, and the front desk staff were kind and helpful too. Our room and the rest of the hotel were clean. Parking was free, felt safe, and there were plenty of spaces. There are many homeless people around the highway and Chevron around the corner, but they kept to themselves and didn't cause any trouble. The hotel sits far enough out of the way that we felt safe. Breakfast was a small selection of yogurt, muffins, fruit, granola bars, and similar items, with no hot food. It was enough to get us through our fun days in Portland, though. The hotel is close to downtown and the main city area, and there are cute local coffee shops farther down the road. I'd recommend staying here if you're visiting Portland.
