Americas Best Value Inn-Portland/Corpus Christi

The second room was clean and acceptable, and both the housekeeper and Rob were very nice. Our first night was another story: the upgraded downstairs room had roaches in the kitchenette, which made my wife panic. She wouldn't change or get into bed, and slept in her clothes. One of its two A/C units didn't work, either. The ice machine was broken when she went to get ice, and although we were told it would be fixed the next day, it was still out five days later. We were asked to pack up before leaving the following day so we could be moved to another room. The downstairs room we originally booked wasn't available, so we got the upgrade for one night at the same price.

It's right by the water, which is the one real plus. The room smelled bad and had flies everywhere, and there were no screens on the windows. I wouldn't feel safe staying here alone. It's passable if you just need a cheap place for one night, but that's about all. You get what you pay for, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The location worked well, but the room was nasty, with fruit flies and floors that hadn't been swept properly. There was a big gap under the door, too. We only had two towels, and when we asked the front desk for more, the staff looked and acted annoyed. They weren't very friendly.

I checked in, saw the condition of the room, and checked out five minutes later. Dead and live roaches were all over the place, black mold covered both the walls and ceiling, and nothing seemed to have been cleaned. Mold was on the shower and sink, and the toilet hadn't even been flushed after the previous guest. There was trash all along the walkway to the room. Worst motel I've ever stayed in. Stay away.
