Residence Inn by Marriott Portland North

I stayed at this Residence inn a while ago and forgot to leave a review, so I’m writing it now. I slept well, enjoyed the breakfast, and found all the employees nice and helpful. There was a car in the parking lot that looked suspicious to me, with someone sleeping inside. I mentioned it to Devin, who I think was the GM because he was checking everything out. He went over right away, and the car was gone the next day. That made me feel my own car was safe. Thanks, Devin.

Breakfast gravy was a real treat, and this is one of the few RI places that serves it. The Thanksgiving staff were great too, and I hope they have a wonderful holiday season. Getting there is the frustrating part: the hotel sits inside a residential area, so finding your way in and parking can be a pain.

I’ve only stayed at this Residence Inn a couple of times, but seeing Tawnee at breakfast and the friendly, professional woman at the front desk always makes the day better. I think her name is Maria. They’re both consistently kind, and I know I’m in for a good day when I see them.

The location worked well for my daily trip to a cheer competition, so I have no complaint about that. The rest of the stay was another story. On my first morning, I noticed the tub water wasn’t draining properly, but thought the shower was just draining slowly. Once I got in, the tub filled up, and after I shut the water off it took about ten minutes to empty. I took the stopper apart and found a whole handful of hair packed underneath. I shouldn’t have had to deal with that. There were other signs of careless cleaning. On my last morning, I reached under the sink for a sponge and soap to rinse dishes before putting them in the washer, and found used Q-tips covered in makeup in the basket with the cleaning supplies. If that gets missed, it makes me wonder how thoroughly or quickly the rooms are being cleaned. My wife also found the coffee maker missing its filter basket on our first night. The front desk worker said she’d bring one, but it never arrived. Those problems mean this place won’t be on my list when my family and I need a room in Oregon again.
