The Mermaids' Porch Bed and Breakfast

Dawn made our five-day vacation so relaxing, with helpful advice while we were visiting Norfolk/Virginia Beach. The food at breakfast was some of the best we ate all week, and Jack was a lovely companion, one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met. Middleport is a quiet, historic community with its own gems for tourists and people just passing through. I owe a lot of this enjoyable trip to the Mermaid's Porch.

We chose this over the area hotels while my son was at a local sports camp, and I’m so glad we did. Dawn made things comfortable and restful, the daily cookies in the room were a treat, and her breakfasts were delicious. Jack is a great dog, the neighbors are lovely, and the location is really convenient. Parking was easy, with a Tesla charger available if you need one. There are also great local restaurants. We couldn’t have asked for more from a host and will stay here again when we’re back in the area.

Even if I lived in Portsmouth, I’d stay here. Dawn is a host who goes above and beyond, with a hot tub, wine, and the best homemade cookies ever. Breakfast was so good and varied that after the first morning I said fruit and yogurt would be plenty, but I’d be glad to have French toast if she made it. She did, and it was some of the best I’ve had. The electric vehicle charger is a nice extra, though I’d stay here without it. I rarely choose B&Bs, and this one would be hard to beat.

Dawn was wonderful, and Jack was so nice. I really enjoyed the conversation, the delicious breakfast, and the beautiful historic home. There are lots of nice places to eat and visit within walking distance. This was my first bed-and-breakfast, and I can’t wait to return.
