High Desert Inn

The location is a real plus, right in the heart of Prineville, with parks, shops, and places to eat an easy walk away. At about half the cost of other motels, it may be a decent option if you’re traveling on a budget. But it’s a budget motel, seriously. My room was clean and the bed comfortable, while the hallway carpet was stained and smelly. Pets are allowed, but there’s no on-site potty area for dogs, and good grass is about a block away. Depending on the other guests, it can be quiet or noisy, so it may not suit light sleepers. Breakfast is just coffee, milk or juice, and packaged pastry, with no fruit or anything fresh.

Jamie Lynn was amazing, so helpful, and the service was wonderful. I can’t stress that enough. The place is pet-friendly, but the rooms, hall, and building are mediocre at best. The sheets weren’t washed, a lamp and curtains were broken, and there was a strange smell. You hear just about everything at all hours. It’s not horrible, but it’s not exceptional either. You get what you pay for, and it’s useful for a quick stop when you’re in a pinch.

There were cobwebs coming down the wall and unpainted areas in the bathroom. The place is a dump, and the day shift service was horrible. The online page says breakfast is at 6 AM, but they don’t serve it until seven. I travel for work and have to be gone by 6, so that doesn’t work for me. For some reason, they don’t want to serve you breakfast. There are homeless people living there and dogs barking all night. Not worth the money.

We were apprehensive because of all the horrible reviews, but after three nights my husband and I had no problems. The inn was quiet the whole time. The bedding was clean, the shower hot, and the a/c, tv, and refrigerator all worked. It’s outdated and not a 5 star hotel, but we were looking for convenience and were comfortable. Staff were super nice. We mentioned the reviews about rude staff, and they said they had fired some problematic employees. They even gave me a key so I could look at our room before we stayed. We’ll come back next time we’re in town.
