Homewood Suites by Hilton Providence Downtown

There are so many kinds of seating that it’s easy to find somewhere comfortable. The room had a full size fridge and most kitchen appliances. I also tried the breakfast one day, though I’m not sure if extended-stay guests are meant to use it with regular guests. It impressed me: you can build your own breakfast burrito, make waffles, and choose from a yogurt station with nice brands, loads of toppings including healthy options like flax seed, and cereal. They had all kinds of juice. Someone told me the special breakfast item changes regularly while staples like bagels with cream cheese and waffles stay available. The hotel is right by the bus, about a six-second walk from the cute, free RIPTA trolley to Newport. The main dining area has a little balcony that could be nice in warmer weather. Other guests seemed to bring dogs, so it may be pet friendly, perhaps only in certain areas. Snow plowing outside got a bit loud; I adjusted the room temperature so the heat would kick on and make some white noise. I slept through most of it.

The location is handy, with lots of restaurants nearby and an enclosed mall about a five-minute walk away. It has many restaurants and a large movie theater with IMAX screens. The hotel allows pets. Valet parking is convenient and secure since cars are kept inside, with unlimited in and out for $40 a day, though that’s costly. There’s also a public lot across the street. Our spacious suite had a kitchen and worked well for an extended stay. There was self-serve laundry on each floor, and a couple of detergent packets were provided in the room. We had a ticer view room, which was nice, but the hotel isn’t soundproof. Even on the seventh floor, traffic noise was noticeable. The beds were average comfort, and the shower had good pressure. Breakfast was very basic and disappointing for what we paid. The pictured fresh fruit bowls and muffins never showed up. They did have white and wheat bread, whole apples, a waffle maker, yogurt, dry cereal, and instant oatmeal.

The room was huge, especially the bathroom, and our corner faced the river and hill for amazing views. We could walk to most places during our stay, and the train station was convenient too. Having a full size fridge was great for keeping meal leftovers and drinks, especially something I can imagine a family appreciating. Breakfast was included, and the selection changed a little each day, so it didn’t get dull. Staff helped us sort out transportation to a concert. For the price, I don’t think you can beat this Providence stay. This is from a few years ago, but I thought it was a great place.

The lounge felt cozy and lovely with its Christmas decorations, and the room was spacious, clean, modern, and comfortable. They’d left plenty of towels and a new bottle of Crabtree & Evelyn shower gel. Even though we arrived very late after heavy traffic, check-in went smoothly, and valet parking was wonderful. The receptionists were polite, professional, and very friendly. If I return to Providence, I know where I’ll stay.
