Super 8 by Wyndham Provo BYU Orem

The staff were great and deserved a better building and better quality around them. Breakfast was acceptable, about what you'd expect from a free Wyndham breakfast. We chose this place because it was near the campus we wanted to visit, but won't stay again. The building was awful. The walls were so thin we could hear everything happening throughout the hotel. The ceiling wasn't even painted. The bathtub plug leaked badly, so I had to leave water running steadily to keep the tub from emptying. While showering, the water temperature swung drastically without warning. One day we came back to find police officers in the hallway, which didn't make the place feel safe.

For a budget motel, it wasn't bad. You do get what you pay for. The rooms were spacious, and before getting into bed I checked that it looked clean. I heard a few doors slam and voices in the hall during the night, but that's to be expected. The tub had spots where the plastic felt like it was peeling. The faucet was finicky, jumping between scalding and icy water. It took some effort to get it mostly warm. Our keycard also kept failing, so we had to get the front desk to reactivate it. Luckily someone was there 24/7 and was always helpful. I didn't try the breakfast or use the pool.

The beds were clean and nice, and the staff were very friendly. But there were a lot of problems. In the morning, there was no hot shower water. The front desk said laundry caused the shortage, which left me wondering why they were doing laundry then if they knew that would happen. The room AC units were too small to cool the rooms much. The jacuzzi seemed to have been broken for a long time, and the indoor pool was unheated and far too cold to swim in. Both ice machines were broken, though we could ask the desk for cubes from a tray in their freezer. We had to try three room key cards before one opened the door. Breakfast had fake eggs, and the floors had lots of stains.

Breakfast was the one good part. There was a nice range of food and drinks in the morning. The room notice said it ended at 9, but we passed through the dining room around 10:30 and people were still coming in. The rest of the weekend was disappointing. I had to go to the front desk several times, first because the keycard wouldn't open the pool door, then because we had no hot water. I was told maintenance had gone home and there were no other rooms available. When I asked how moving rooms would help unless each had its own water heater, the clerk said they didn't and then ignored me. The bathroom had a notice saying the room was sanitized, but there were urine spots underneath the toilet seat, and the toilet shifted whenever we sat on it. The motel needs a lot of work, and the staff weren't kind or professional.
