Val U Stay Inn and Suites

My niece’s dad was just killed at this motel. This place is dangerous. I saw meth foils scattered across the floors on the main and lower levels, and people smoking in the stairwells. People were screaming and moaning, with broken glass, boarded and bolted windows, and blood on the walls. There were homeless people everywhere, while the motel was also checking in guests with tiny children. It’s a drug infested death trap.

The location was the one good thing about my stay. The rooms were dingy, and every hallway had its own smell. There was no room service at all. The manager, a woman with glasses, was the worst part. She was hateful, rude and disdainful, and didn’t seem to care what anyone else said. If you stay here, keep your door bolted, bring earplugs for the crackheads making noise all night, and sleep with one eye open.

The owners seem to be doing what they can for guests, and with remodeling underway the motel has potential. The beds in both of the rooms we had were clean and bedbug free, but the rooms themselves needed a thorough scrub. I had to spray and wipe down the tabletops and other surfaces. Whoever makes the beds does a good job, though. For an affordable room with a little private balcony, I didn’t mind giving things a quick clean myself. If the rooms had been cleaner, I’d have given it 4 stars.

The staff have been flexible when my mother and I pay late in the evening, and we’re grateful for that. We pay by the week, and after almost two months here, I’ve realized I could probably afford a small apartment. The room has the amenities I need, and the bed and pillow are decent enough to let me relax once I’m inside. It’s not close to luxurious, and the hallways can be uncomfortable with people camping there or digging through the dumpsters. Trash gets left around the property too often, so they need someone to take care of the grounds.
