The upper-floor rooms have a pretty nice view when they face South, and the convention center is attached, making it easy to walk through or around to Riverwalk for Brue’s and other restaurants. Of the three downtown properties, this one has the best location but felt the most dated inside. The windows in our high-floor room also seemed quite sketchy. Each place has its tradeoffs, so compare prices and think about why you're staying.
The sheets looked clean and the pillows were nice, and the front desk staff were wonderful. The hotel seemed to be remodeling and trying to update, but for what we paid I expected more than Super 8 quality. The rest of the room was disappointing: dirty marks on the comforters, desk chair, door, corners, and floors. A big crack in the shower wall had been patched, but still looked gross. The sink drained poorly, the toilet didn't flush well, and the old beds weren't comfortable. The refrigerator worked, though it was old and leaked water.
The customer service at the front desk deserves five stars. The staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. A few things elsewhere were frustrating: the hot tub heater was broken, the in-room coffee makers were disgusting and needed cleaning, and we ran out of coffee packets. The mini fridges were so cold they ruined expensive drinks. I figure about $60 worth of beverages got destroyed, and I don't expect to be reimbursed.
The room was very clean, and it was nice to have room service. I arrived around 2 a.m. on Saturday after a long day of travel, without a reservation, and was greeted with the warmest smile and incredible hospitality. Even with some system problems, the front desk associate stayed calm, patient, and gracious. Her upbeat energy was exactly the sunshine I needed at that hour. She's an absolute gem and gave my stay a wonderful start. Thank you for the exceptional service!
This was my second year staying here, and I'm sure I'll come back next year. The furniture and amenities are good, the rooms are nice, and the hotel is quiet, though maybe I was just too tired to notice noise. The staff are friendly. This time the sink drained very slowly, the hair dryer didn't work, and the bathroom needed a thorough clean along the baseboards and corners. I was exhausted from working at the Fair, so I didn't deal with those things during the stay, but told the head of housekeeping when I left. One elevator was out, which was annoying with the hotel so busy. (CPW Volunteer)
