There was actual feces on the toilet seat and the toilet paper holder, and hair on several pillowcases, making it look like they were just refluffed and put back on the bed without being washed. The bathroom also had a patched hole in the wall that hadn't been sanded or repainted, plus visible mold and rust around the shower door. The room door wouldn't latch properly unless I put my full weight and force against it.

Housekeeping staff were friendly, but my husband noticed the breakfast area wasn't as clean as it had been before. There used to be a wonderful employee there, but we didn't see her on this visit. We've stayed several times over the past year with little to no trouble, but this visit changed our plans. We'll look elsewhere next time we're in town. I wasn't welcomed on arrival. Instead, I was accused of being the guest who'd left a bad review on a third-party booking site. It wasn't me, and sharing that other guest's name was inappropriate. Everyone should be greeted and treated well either way. I had already pre-checked in online, yet still had to show my license and incidental card in person. I don't understand the point of doing both. The pull-out couch had no mattress or bedding. Staff brought sheets to cover the top. At 8 a.m. on checkout day, I was called and told to come to the front desk immediately, which felt early. We'd booked with points, and there had been confusion, but when I asked at the desk and again at checkout whether we owed anything, I was assured the balance was zero. I asked for a receipt and was told it wasn't necessary. Later that day, I was charged $15 and told it was a pet fee. They said I should have been told at check-in, but I wasn't. I also should have been told when I asked twice about the balance. I'd never paid a pet fee before and was told this was a new rule under new management. I didn't agree to the charge.

I liked the healthy breakfast options, including fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and boiled eggs, and I enjoyed using the Elyptical in the workout room. The room, bathroom, and hotel were all impressively clean. The front desk staff were friendly, caring, and professional. I'll stay here again because of the quality of the staff.

At La Quinta, 1450 Tyler Avenue, Radford, Virginia, we stayed in Room 107. I've never had a worse hotel experience. We paid $755 for a room that was completely unacceptable and, in my opinion, unsafe. The bathroom walls, ceiling, and floor had visible mold, and there was more mold on the wall near the floor. A DampRid container in the room was full of moldy water, which points to serious moisture and air quality problems. The carpet felt damp, and the bed frame was rusting. Paint had apparently been used to cover mold, but overspray on the shower tiles just made the lack of proper remediation obvious. I have photos documenting the moldy water in the DampRid bucket, the mold on the shower ceiling and the sloppy paint overspray, the rusted frame, and the mold growing near the floor. This isn't just unpleasant, it could be a health hazard, especially for families with children. It's shocking to me that a room in that kind of condition was rented at all, let alone at that price.
