Super 8 by Wyndham Rahway/Newark

We had a miserable three-day stay at Super 8 by Wyndham Rahway/Newark with my wife and two young children. The place didn’t feel family-friendly, and its management and basic cleanliness need serious attention. I booked a non-smoking room, but it smelled strongly of stale tobacco when we arrived. Management moved us after I complained, but the second room smelled even worse and had cigar butts scattered on the floor. Every day, the parking lot also reeked of marijuana, making the atmosphere uncomfortable and unwelcoming for a family. Housekeeping left only two towels for our family of four each day, so we had to call for more every time. The disregard for the non-smoking policy, poor cleanliness, and sketchy atmosphere made this a huge disappointment and a health concern with kids. They need to make significant improvements before this can be a suitable place for families. Avoid it if you care about a clean, safe, pleasant stay.

This room is a hole in the wall. The blankets are thin, the heater doesn’t work, and the microwave is broken. They charge extra if you ask for more blankets. The service is horrible. Do not go to this hotel!

There was debris in the corners and on the floor, and the floor clearly hadn’t been swept or mopped before we arrived. I found hair in the bathroom and around the sink and mirror too. It felt nasty walking around without slippers, and after a couple of hours I went straight into the shower because the room felt so filthy. I was so upset I’d forgotten my room slippers and shower shoes. It was obvious the staff were doing the bare minimum and not disinfecting rooms between guests. Super 8, please do better. There are plenty of cleaning companies you could hire instead of trying to save money by cleaning yourselves. The rooms aren’t being cleaned properly. Disgusting.

For the price and location, this was one of the better places I’ve stayed up north. It was clean, and the bed was really comfortable. We were comfortable during our stay apart from one thing: there was no fridge or microwave.
