I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on New Bern Avenue several times while a family member was recovering at WakeMed hospital in Raleigh. Jami at the front desk was wonderful to talk with and went out of her way to check on how things were going with our family and the recovery. The staff were supportive, and the rooms were very clean, with no housekeeping problems. I highly recommend this location for anyone with family at WakeMed or needing a longer stay in the area.

It's not the newest or fanciest place around, but it's clean, comfortable, and nice enough, with pleasant grounds. The hotel has been renovated with a modern look, breakfast has a good selection, and there's an indoor pool plus a small laundry room if needed. Staff are polite, friendly, and helpful. Housekeeping does a good job and replaces things when you ask.

We came from Atlanta with my 8-year-old to see my daughter and grandkids, and the pool situation wrecked our weekend. The aquatic center was already closed until March, then we learned the hotel pool was shut for the whole day so management could add cleaning chemicals. Why do that at noon instead of 9pm? This was Saturday, Feb 21st, in case anyone wants to follow up.

My husband, Roger Whitt, has lymphoma and was due at Wake Med on New Bern Ave in Raleigh for treatment, so we booked the Holiday Inn Express at 3618 New Bern Ave for Feb 24 and 25, 2026. We made the reservation at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, Feb 24. Around 6:30 that same morning, I had what was described as a mini stroke and was taken by ambulance to the Wake Med ER on New Bern Ave. I'm in ICU. At 8:00 AM, within two hours of booking, my husband called to cancel. The hotel said cancellation had to be made 24 hours ahead, which wasn't possible. They charged us for one night anyway, and we feel that was unjustified. We've stayed at plenty of Holiday Inn Express hotels over many years. We're on a fixed income, and he's an Army veteran. We didn't need to be treated this way, and we won't stay at Holiday Inn Express again. They did us wrong.

The rooms were clean, and everyone was kind, but it was the women at the front desk who really made me feel welcome. They answered all my questions and tried to help with every request. I've never had better service or felt so well treated.
