We chose The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe for my son's wedding weekend because of its historic character, recent renovations, quiet grounds, and location right across from the venue. The property is lovely, with peaceful gardens, elegant rooms, and a refined feel. But two service problems overshadowed that setting. The morning after the wedding, my brother-in-law and several invited friends, who were hotel guests leaving for early flights, couldn't get breakfast before going to the airport. Most of the tables were empty, so it didn't look busy, but breakfast service seemed severely understaffed. They left without eating, which added stress after a long celebratory weekend. The night before the wedding, February 19, 2026, our group of 12 seniors, all over 60 except perhaps one in their late 50s, met at Bing’s Bar as registered guests. Family had flown in from around the country, and we were relaxing and catching up, mostly speaking Spanish at a normal volume. We'd been served drinks responsibly earlier, and everyone was calm, conversational, and well behaved. There was no noise, disruption, or sign of intoxication. A waitress, not a manager, came to our table without warning or discussion and said the whole group had been “over served,” so no one would get any more alcohol. She didn't ask what anyone had consumed, check whether anyone was sober, give a behavior or safety reason, or offer nonalcoholic options. The refusal applied to our entire table while other patrons continued to be served. Then she handed me the bill and walked away, leaving no chance to discuss it with a manager or resolve things courteously. It felt abrupt, unfair, and humiliating, especially after travel fatigue and all the planning for a long awaited family reunion. It badly marred what should have been a joyful evening. We've filed a formal complaint asking management for an explanation, apology, and resolution. The way the alcohol refusal was handled raises concerns for us about responsible service procedures, including California's mandatory RBS training and its requirements for individualized, nondiscriminatory refusals and proper escalation, as well as basic courtesy to guests. Despite the Inn's generally praised rooms, grounds, and amenities, I'd caution families with seniors and other travelers planning wedding or reunion stays. The setting has real potential, but this was a major disappointment.
The Inn is beautiful and historic, with stunning architecture and peaceful grounds. The staff overall were kind and engaging, but their attention wasn't always at the level you'd expect at a five-star resort. At the café, small service and hospitality lapses stood out. For the price and standard promised, guests shouldn't have to ask for basic touches. Sometimes the experience felt casual rather than elevated. The business side left a worse impression. My interactions with the communications department, specifically Olivia, felt unprofessional and disappointing, and overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable visit. It's a shame, because the property has the charm and setting for a five-star experience. Service needs to be more consistent, and professionalism behind the scenes needs to improve.
The room was super cool, and the bar staff are pros. The bartenders are hospitable and know their stuff, and the cocktails are awesome. Whenever I'm in the area, I know I'll be treated well and get a bomb drink. We'll be back again and again!
The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe has a peaceful, elegant feel that makes it easy to relax while still feeling welcome and comfortable. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the gracious staff were attentive throughout our stay. Its history and charm come through in the whole atmosphere. A special place we'd be glad to return to.
The property is lovely, but the bar and lounge experience fell well short of the hospitality we expected. On the evening of February 19, our wedding group was staying at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe and had planned a casual get-together there. Friends who weren't staying at the hotel joined us, around 20 people total. The bar was busy but not packed. No one was drunk, loud, or misbehaving, yet the bar manager abruptly stopped serving our group. One guest was told that some people had been there since lunch, around 3pm, so he “could not serve more.” That didn't fit what was happening at the time, especially since several people had only just arrived and were refused too. The way it was handled embarrassed us in front of our guests during an important wedding weekend. A bar manager should be able to manage the lounge professionally and explain policies clearly and respectfully. We moved the rest of our gatherings to another venue.
