Courtyard by Marriott Rapid City

The room was quiet and clean, and the hotel worked well as a stop during our drive moving my son from Nashville to Seattle. We ate at The Bistro, and the food was good, though a bit pricey. Parking was included, but we needed a card from the front desk to get to our car. The shower had one of those half doors that leaves the bathroom cold and wet. And the perks felt pretty limited: the Bonvoy card said buy one drink, get one free, but wine and liquor were excluded. I got a food discount of around 10%, but had to remind the dinner server, and the breakfast server ignored it. They charge for breakfast and even charge Starbucks prices for Starbucks coffee, with no free cup for tired travelers. The hotel itself was very nice, but those details were disappointing.

The room was comfortable and the hotel was clean, so I’d stay here again if we’re back in the area. Just be ready for a crowded parking lot, since finding a space can be difficult. The walls also let quite a bit of sound through, especially in rooms with a connecting door. One night we could clearly hear people talking next door.

We had a great price and got discounts for local attractions that saved us quite a bit. The hotel was modern, new, and clean, with a large, nice gym and a washer and dryer. Its location was right in the middle of everything we wanted to do, and there was free access to a nice little water park across the parking lot. Loved the place.

The workout room was decent, though some floor mats, machine straps and handles need replacing, and some machine nuts were loose. The bigger problem was the noise. Soundproofing is poor, so we heard footsteps overhead, people through the walls, and toilets flushing upstairs. The bed had sunk in and had no cushion, and the pillows were thin and flat. Both really need replacing.
