Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Smyrna - Atlanta Northwest

The location is great, right across from Dunkin and other places. The rooms were clean, and free breakfast and coffee were nice. We booked expecting to use the indoor pool, but it was closed.

Updated 7/18: I’m changing my service rating from five stars to four. I called for a copy of my receipt, and the person at the desk asked me to call back in 20 minutes because she was busy making reservations. When I did, she sent a generic receipt without details. I called again and asked for a more detailed one. Her tone turned hateful, and she told me to call back in another 20 minutes. I asked if she was the only person working, and she angrily said, “Yes!” I called the corporate office and got the information I needed to resolve it. That call left a bad impression. If she spoke to me that way, I wonder how she treats other customers, or whether customers were there while she was on the phone. Before that, check-in and check-out service had been incredible. The location felt safe, with easy freeway access, and the rooms were cozy, nice, and very clean. Breakfast was great, with plenty of options.

The staff were very nice, but that didn’t make up for finding a bunch of roaches in our room. They were behind the microwave, on the fridge, and crawling on the walls. It was unbelievably disgusting. We packed our things and left at 1:30 a.m., then drove six hours home without sleeping. They did refund us, but that doesn’t undo the experience. I’ll never stay here again or recommend it.

Breakfast was okay, and I don’t blame the staff for the problems. I blame the owners. The pool wasn’t very clean and had the same smell as the rooms and hallways. That mildew smell needs attention and could be a health risk for some people. The cost also wasn’t much lower than other hotels with the same rating, so “you get what you paid for” doesn’t fit here. I hope the owners take this seriously. Our room smelled of mildew, and there was a DampRid bag hanging in the bathroom under the sink. When we asked about it, the desk said the carpets had been cleaned recently. Either that wasn’t true or the job was poorly done. They gave us spray to deodorize the room, but it was for bedbugs, which worried me even more. There were no other rooms available, so we couldn’t switch. We bought deodorizers ourselves and stayed because we couldn’t find another hotel nearby on such short notice. The thought that there might be bedbugs kept us from sleeping much.
