Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Rapid City

I've stayed at three Fairfield by Marriott locations, first in Las Vegas, NV, then St. George, Utah, and then Rapid City, South Dakota, and all were outstanding. The friendly staff took care of whatever we needed. The breakfast buffet was scrumptious, and each place had a full gym and indoor pool. Their features made each stay feel like home. The clean room let me sleep peacefully, which was what I needed. Staff were friendly, and I nearly suggested we make up our own handshake before deciding to just get some rest. I hadn't researched the hotel beforehand and was surprised to see the water park sticking out of the building. I'll bring my son here when he's old enough. There are historic places to visit within an hour, and the hotel is near the airport. The exit to reach it is a little odd. I missed it twice because I was so tired.

The staff made this feel like a five-star stay. Everyone we spoke with was warm, helpful, and friendly. The hotel was spotless, well kept, and our room was comfortable. Breakfast had limited hot food, just eggs and bacon along with coffee. The English muffin was fine, though I'd prefer real Philadelphia cream cheese over the brand they serve. We also had only one coffee cup in the room, while every other Marriott we've visited has had at least two. With a few small changes, this clean, comfortable property would be near perfect. Four stars for the stay, five for service.

We booked two months ahead, but only learned on arrival that Watiki was closing early for a “private event”. We hadn't been told in advance. The room was decent and mostly clean, though we found a small screwdriver on the floor. Breakfast wasn't worth recommending. The bread for toast was hard, as if it had been left exposed for a while, and the English muffin was the same.
