Garden Cottages Motel-Rapid City

John and Jennifer gave us a genuinely warm welcome, and I wish we'd had more time there. We were heading west and didn't want to pay the high prices elsewhere, so finding this place was a gem. The cottages are small, but they suited our needs perfectly. The room was impeccably clean, like I'd expect from a large chain hotel, with great AC and excellent shower pressure. Our cottage was spotless, and they quickly took care of what we needed with a smile. John and Jennifer, the owners, had such a good attitude that we felt like friends. They made it easy to find our way around Rapid City, including places to eat and attractions. We'd definitely return.

From the road, I thought this might be a cute, kitschy place. It turned out to be a dump. The cottages smell damp, maintenance seems to be kept to a bare minimum, and the furnishings look like rejects from Goodwill. The owners were also oddly strict about occupancy. My parents and sister were visiting from out of town, and I came along to check them in. The owner grilled my mom about listing three people when there were four. She explained that I live here and was only stopping by, but the owner repeated that the cabin, which has two double beds, only sleeps three. I had high hopes, but no.

After an 11-hour drive from Wisconsin, my dad and I arrived at the motel very late. There was a note on the main office door telling us how to get into our cabin, which was cozy and nice. It had free WiFi, and the friendly owners put out coffee in the morning.
