Super 8 Rayville

3/9/2024. Expedia thankfully finally took this hotel off its site, where I’d originally booked. I’ve never stayed somewhere worse. During check-in, it wasn’t even clear whether I’d get a room because Expedia showed rooms the hotel no longer had available. I did get a room, but left in under an hour. One bed was broken, the linens were dirty, and there was mold on the shower ceiling. The bedspreads had cigarette burns and other stains, with dust and cobwebs everywhere. There were more questionable stains and thick gunk on the floor. The door was broken off in pieces and looked like it had been through a lot.

I can’t give this zero stars, but the room was disgusting. The electronic lock usually didn’t work, so I kept having to go to the front desk to get in. Two of the three mornings, a fire alarm went off at 4:30 AM. The towels had green-yellow stains, so I went to WalMart and bought my own. After half an hour on the carpet, the soles of my white socks had turned brown. I stopped brushing my teeth because I kept finding roaches on my toothbrush and didn’t want to put anything in my mouth that had been unpacked in that room. I’m glad I got out without picking up a parasite or disease. Nasty. Do not recommend.

We only lasted five hours and left at 3 a.m. After we’d read the bad reviews, the front clerk told us the rooms were clean and there were no complaints. We asked for non-smoking, but the floor was dirty and the room smelled of stale cigarettes. The sheets and bed covers had multiple cigarette burns. There were just two towels, no washcloths, and no toiletries. The beds were full size, not queen as expected. The furniture and bedding were old and beat up, like they’d been found on the roadside. The blanket was paper thin and felt like sandpaper. On the plus side, I checked carefully and found no sign of bed bugs. It was quiet, maybe because we were the only guests, and it was the only pet-friendly place, so we had to pay the astronomical price of $92.00. I wish I’d taken pictures, but I didn’t. The two stars are for allowing pets and for the quiet. I don’t recommend staying unless there’s no alternative.

We just needed somewhere quick to sleep after reading the reviews, and honestly, the place was as bad as people said. I’m deathly afraid of bugs, but there were no roaches or bed bugs in my room. There was black mold on the shower ceiling, and I probably have permanent lung damage from it. We only used the bed and treated the place like a rest stop. When we woke up, someone had left a surprise in the rear of our car. At least we survived that mold-filled, janky hotel. Stay if you want to brag that you survived it. I don’t think it deserves just one star.
