RENEE !!!! Awesome Ty ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ After a long, exhausting day, Renée changed the whole mood of my night as soon as I reached the desk. I travel all over the country and have stayed in more hotels than I can count, so I know the difference between being welcomed and being treated like a transaction. She made me feel respected and taken care of. Renée is professional, calm, confident, and warm. You can teach someone how to check in a guest, but the personality and heart she brings to the lobby can’t be taught. In a world where service feels rushed and robotic, she really stands out. She’s the hotel’s greatest asset, absolutely no exaggeration. People like her elevate a place just by how they treat others. Management, recognize what you have in her. She was the savior of my night, and people like that are rare. Five stars all day.
The hotel’s Wi-Fi was shockingly bad. I tested it over several days and at different times. Around 4:30-5:00 AM it sometimes worked reasonably, but after 8:00 AM, especially afternoons and evenings, it was nearly unusable. It would fail to connect, not load the login page, accept my credentials without giving access, or connect briefly and then keep dropping. I restarted my laptop, iPad, phone, AirPods, and MacBook several times. They’re all fairly new Apple devices and work fine everywhere else, so it seems unrealistic that all of them failed at once. The hotel’s network infrastructure is clearly the issue. I contacted the Wi-Fi helpline, and all they suggested was forgetting the network and logging in again. Sometimes that helped for a few minutes, then it dropped. Even when it stayed connected, it was far too slow for remote work, video calls, or uploading files. For several days I lost at least an hour a day trying to get online, then had to use mobile data on my iPad and phone for work. That defeats the point of hotel Wi-Fi. I’ve traveled widely around the US, including hostels, homestays, hotels near national parks, rural villages, and mountain areas, and never had a connection this unstable. For a Bay Area hotel surrounded by tech companies, it’s embarrassing. There was no weather disruption or announced maintenance. It seems the hotel has too little bandwidth and hasn’t invested in an upgrade, so the network fails during busy hours. Business travelers can’t use it, and for leisure guests it can ruin the mood. This is my first Google Maps review because I usually don’t bother, and my first negative one.
The team went above and beyond after checkout and let me leave my luggage there so I didn’t have to take it to work. I offered a tip, but they refused, saying that’s simply the standard they give all their customers. The room was clean, the price was better than I expected, and the customer service was top notch. I’ll recommend this hidden gem to friends and coworkers. 100/100, thanks again!
The main downsides were the thin walls and the older, rather loud wall heater and A/C. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want earplugs. There’s also no microwave in the room. Still, it’s a good option for a longer stay, around $2,000 a month. The building was clean and the pool looked inviting, though it was too cold to swim. The location is convenient, with an easy walk to Kaiser Hospital if you’re a travel nurse. Umu at the front desk was fantastic, communicated well, and helped us when we left something behind in our room.
The service keeps bringing me back to Good Night Inn Redwood City. I’ve stayed there many times, a week at a time, and the front desk team is consistently wonderful. General manager James Fitzgerald is especially professional, courteous, and kind. The room is quiet and dark, so I get the best sleep. Prices are great, and every stay has been a good experience. Keep it up!
