Best Western Plus Boomtown Casino Hotel

We arrived at 11:15 p.m. after a long drive, with a room already booked. The older man at the desk was slow helping the people ahead of me, then took a long time to process my card for the extra pet deposit. The night staff seemed undertrained and unfamiliar with check-in, and I didn’t get to my room until 12:30 a.m. If I hadn’t paid in advance and it hadn’t been so late, I would’ve cancelled and left. This resort wasn’t fun for us, and I wouldn’t recommend it for a family vacation. They treated us badly for bringing our pet, even though the website clearly says “pet-friendly.” The one-ply toilet paper says a lot about how cheaply they treat guests, especially given what they charge. We didn’t even go to the casino. The whole place felt like a rip-off, so we slept and left. I’ll never return for that service or atmosphere.

The people checking us in and out were nice, and the security staff were personable. The rooms and the rest of the place were clean and presentable. There are plenty of places inside to eat, gamble, and listen to music. For anyone older or disabled, getting around could be hard. Bring a wheelchair, cane, or walker with wheels, and somewhere to sit on it. There are long walks to everything, including from the parking lot to registration. The North tower rooms are a long way too. Even disability parking may be close to the hotel, but much of the casino and hotel is still a long walk from there. That was the only thing I disliked. Personally, I probably wouldn’t return because of all the walking, though it may suit other people. My room had a patio or balcony. I couldn’t figure out how to turn off its light, and with it on all night and the shade on the door, I felt uneasy that someone might be looking in. It was a ground-floor room.

I arrived around midnight and Danny at the front desk checked me in. He was helpful, respectful, and so kind. Later that night, my wife and I played slots, and his attitude and energy were still wonderful. I’d definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Thanks, Danny, you’re great.

We like making an evening of it at the Guitar Bar when Keith and Kelsey are scheduled. They play great music, and the bartenders are warm and friendly. The crowd is relaxed, and the drinks are very affordable. We’d be happy to pay more for some craft cocktails or other slightly more premium drinks. Boomtown may be underestimating its audience, especially given that it’s in Verdi. Some more creative choices would be welcome.
