Motel 6-Reno, NV - West

We were disappointed with nearly every part of this stay. The room wasn't ready at 3, even though we'd called ahead to ask about checking in early and had also stopped by to see a room. After 3, we were told we'd have to wait at least another hour for one to be cleaned. The new front desk employee had been left alone, and other people told us management had replaced the whole staff, so nobody seemed to know what was going on. Housekeeping mostly stood around on phones or wandered while eating. Our room wasn't very clean, the walls were thin, and other guests were loud. The pool was freezing and had a gross film floating on it. There's just one ice machine, way down by the office, and internet costs extra and only works for one device. The manager was no help with our complaints. We'd avoided the other Motel 6 because it had bedbugs, thinking a corporate hotel would be better. It wasn't. I usually like Motel 6, so this was especially disappointing.

We felt unsafe here and couldn't stand the smell. The room reeked of smoke and looked dirty, with grime, yellow drips, and blood on the wall. We were so grossed out that we bought a sheet, blanket, pillowcases, and a candle nearby. There was no mini-fridge, microwave, or even a TV remote. Several men kept staring at us and looking into our car, and the smell and worry kept me from sleeping. We left after one night and booked Reno Suites for just a couple dollars more. The room and experience there were very nice, so it was worth it. I feel like this hotel was insanely overpriced and that my money was stolen. It also ruined the first night of our vacation. We hadn't realized the area was so rough, with no decent places to go or eat nearby. The front desk woman was rude and didn't seem to know anything about customer service.

I booked a smoking room with a refrigerator for three nights, but there was no fridge. I could manage with my cooler, but the stale smoke smell hit me as soon as I opened the door. I smoke myself, but this was on another level. The odor had soaked into everything; leaving the door open didn't help. After about 15 minutes, the bottoms of my white socks were completely black. The hardwood floor was sticky with layers of smoke residue. It seemed they swept but never washed it, so I resorted to wearing slippers. In the bathroom I found tiny glass shards on the floor, and the towel I used to pick them up had what looked like blood on it. Housekeeping came by while I was there but never cleaned my room. The neighborhood wasn't great and some people seemed sketchy, but the condition of the room was the main problem. I was booked for three nights and checked out the morning after my second. Two days after getting home, my things still smelled of smoke, and I had to wash all my clothes and clean everything else. It cost about $100 a night. Never again at Motel 6.

The property and room were clean, and the front desk was courteous. The room was a bit too heavily scented, and the bathroom door's top hinge kept coming loose from the frame. The maintenance screws were much too small. We had to keep the door propped open to avoid any pet getting crushed. It was late and we were tired, so we didn't ask for a different room or larger screws. I'm sure they would've helped.
