The Jesse Hotel & Bar

Check-in was easy, even when I arrived at 1 am, and the staff were great. My room was gorgeous and so comfortable, with a perfect bed, lovely bedding, blackout curtains, Grown Alchemy products, exposed brick, a cozy rug and seating area, high ceilings, and a beautiful plant. I’d absolutely stay here again.

The room was beautiful, with nice furniture, a big bathroom and shower, and a comfortable bed. Ours was right above the bar, though, so the DJ was easy to hear until after midnight. Check-in was a mess. No one was there, so we had to ask a very busy bartender to call the owner. Then they questioned our reservation, which made us feel unwelcome. The area is rough, with lots of homeless people and people using drugs. Lock your car and watch your surroundings. The hotel is across from the bus station and other public transit, so expect noise late at night and early in the morning. They provide earplugs and a white noise machine, which gives you an idea of what to expect. It’s walkable to the ballpark, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful stay. It could suit younger people looking to party.

The rooms are beautifully designed and the beds are really comfortable. I hadn’t come across a place like this in downtown Reno before. The food was delicious, especially the veggie tempura, hummus, and meats, and the cocktails were great too. It has a cozy feel, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth checking out if you’re visiting Reno.

The rooms were clean, pretty, and nicely done, but that didn’t make up for the rest of the stay. I was on the last leg of a cross-country trip, traveling alone with a car full of belongings, so I called ahead to ask whether the neighborhood and parking were safe. When I arrived, I asked if it was safe to walk my dog, since the hotel seemed to be a route for homeless people. I was told it wasn’t, and that I should use the parking lot or courtyard for the dog and remove everything from my car. I carried all my things up the stairs because there’s no elevator. Staff were very nice, but when I asked whether anything had ever been stolen from the parking lot, I was told yes. The hotel is a block from a shelter and a bus station. There was screaming all night. From 9 pm until 8 am, the door between the lobby and the courtyard and parking lot is locked. That meant going out onto the street and past 10 to 20 people who heckled me to reach the wide-open parking lot. I wanted to leave early in the morning. The door was still locked when I looked out to check whether it was safe to take my dog out. Three men started walking toward the door, yelling for me. I shut it and called the hotel number I’d been given, but no one answered. I texted to ask when someone would be there and got no response. I called the Reno non-emergency line, and an officer arrived right away to escort me to my car. I had three loads to carry out, and he was happy to help. If the hotel chooses this neighborhood, it needs a security guard or someone on site, or a secure, locked parking lot that guests can reach from inside the building. This was hands-down the worst place I stayed on my trip.
