Red Rose Motel

Bugs, unchanged sheets, and half the TVs not working. When I asked for a refund, they refused. They know what they're doing. Stay far away from this disgusting place and its owners.

The best thing about this motel was its location near my conference in Elizabethtown, PA, and the $90 price. That earns it two stars from me, though the experience itself deserved one. Late at night, whoever was in 33 next door or 32 upstairs kept banging headboards off and on. A lovely addition to the motel's ambiance. My room smelled strongly of cleaning chemicals, so I left the door open while bringing my things in. Once I shut it, I noticed a big trash bag left by the previous guests, full of old food and liquid that had dripped on the floor. I threw it outside. There were also large bits of mop on the floor, and no hand soap or shower soap. The shower only got lukewarm. At check-in, the front desk person was reserved but polite, though it took about 3 to 4 minutes for him to come out while I waited in the lobby. It's a deal for the price and proximity, but be aware of what you might have to put up with. Stay at your own risk.

For the price of hotels around Carlisle this time of year, I got a good night's sleep and would consider staying again if my group were nearby and the property hadn't gotten worse. My room stayed cool and quiet, and it looked like it had been updated recently. The bedside USB ports were a nice touch. I didn't see bed bugs or the other problems some recent guests mentioned, though the linens and floors needed more cleaning. There were stains on the comforter, shower curtain, and carpet, but the rest looked fairly well kept. Management wasn't especially friendly, but they weren't rude. The Wi-Fi didn't work; the TV and fridge did.

We came back for a second stay and were just as pleased as before. It’s a nice little motel, with a clean room and a comfortable, quiet bed. We had a mini fridge, microwave, TV, desk, and one-cup coffee maker.
