Appletree Inn

Five stars. The room had peeling wallpaper, a static-filled TV, and an air conditioner that sounded like a worn-out mower, though it did its job. It smelled of bleach and secrets, and the bed was fine. The person next door might have been dead, but I’m not complaining. I had a warm little bottle of tequila on the bed and kept whispering, “one more day, Seth,” until morning. I came in under a fake name, paid cash, and nobody questioned me. That kind of service works for me. Apple Tree Inn isn’t the Ritz, but it had walls, a door that mostly locked, and a bed that didn’t talk back. Don’t ask why I stayed or for how long. Ask nothing and we’ll get along.

The staff were friendly, professional, and ready to help, and the room was clean, simply furnished, with clean bedding and no bugs or bed bugs. Right in the middle of Richfield Utah, Apple Tree Inn is close to a grocery store, a convenience store, and other local businesses, which made for a quiet, comfortable night. Rooms are reasonably priced and come with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and television. A good option if you’re passing through or staying to see the sights.

The bathroom was reasonably clean, but that was about the only comfort. My kids and I were scared to sleep there. The room was musty, crusty, and dusty, as they put it. There was what looked like asbestos from the ceiling on the bed, and when I brushed it off, a spider came out from under the sheets. My daughter got stuck by a fishhook in the blanket. No fridge or microwave, and there were dead food or animal droppings on the carpet, broken blinds, and holes in the walls. Some pretty sketchy people were hanging around too.

Just awful. The beds and towels were filthy, and the rooms reeked of stale urine. I don't even want to know what a black light would show. My colleague booked it and has learned his lesson. Don’t stay here, it’s a health hazard.
