The kitchen was a real plus. I had a fridge and could cook dinner in my room, which I appreciated. The TV was the reason I gave it four stars, though. Netflix kept buffering, and restarting the TV didn’t fix it. I’d still stay here again when I’m back in Richland for more business.

I was traveling alone for work, and after what happened here I felt really uncomfortable. The location is convenient, but the lack of privacy and the nonexistent service make this a place I won’t return to. I wouldn’t recommend it for a stay longer than a night or two. I spent four nights at this TownePlace Suites. The hotel never warned me that a carpet cleaning service would be entering rooms. One day, I said no when the cleaners asked to come in, then put up the do not disturb sign. They said okay. When I got back from work, they’d entered anyway, gone through my things, and taken a personal undergarment from my bag. They’d piled my belongings, suitcase included, on the clean bed, leaving the bedding dirty. The carpet was soaked, my AC fan had been switched off, and the room smelled of mildew. It was too wet to walk around comfortably without shoes. I reported it to the desk and was moved to a room the cleaners hadn’t touched. Two days later, the cleaners came back without any warning from the hotel. I left for work and returned to wet carpets again, with the AC off. This time my belongings were on the floor, and my clothes had gotten wet from the carpet. I was furious that the hotel hadn’t warned me at all. When I first reported this, the desk told me the GM would contact me. Nobody from management ever did.

The location was nice, but the rest was pretty disappointing. The TV didn’t work, and the orange juice looked like lemonade and was gross to drink. In the weight room, there wasn’t a single towel, all three treadmills were being repaired, and there was a random ladder sitting there like it was storage. Avoid the place until they get things sorted out.

The room itself was clean, and the nearby dining and Riverwalk were pleasant. The Riverwalk didn’t smell, thankfully. The room was another story: it reeked of sweat and fried onions, and there were unpleasant odors in the corridor by the elevator too. I called the front desk, and the woman offered to have the carpet cleaned the next morning. I asked to switch rooms, but she said none were available. I think they should have found a way to deodorize it without leaving a guest in such a smelly room until the next day. The odor seemed to have soaked into the furniture and curtains.

Ryli really made us feel welcome and went above and beyond to help with what we needed. The whole staff was friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. We were here for my husband’s work project for seven weeks, less two days in the middle, from Memorial weekend until mid July, and I’d been nervous about such a long hotel stay. Turns out there was no need. Our room was comfortable and a good size, with a kitchenette. The property also has a decent gym, an inexpensive laundry room, and breakfast in the morning. The location on the Columbia River is great, with river walks, parks, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms nearby. There’s an outlet by the river where you can rent paddle boards, paddle boats, bikes, and other things. A few nearby spots we enjoyed: Lu Lu Craft Kitchen is across the parking lot, with the best cheeseburger in the county and bottomless mimosas on Sunday. McKinley Springs Winery Tasting Room is a stroll of up to 1.2 miles away, with excellent red and white options and great management and staff. Walk about five minutes farther for good food, a full bar, and bartender Cara at Sterlings on the River. Richland WA is a great place to visit for whatever brings you there. Thank you, Ryli, for making our stay exceptional.
