The biggest concern was the security door in the second building. It was meant to require a key card, but the lock had been taped off, so anyone could pull the door open. That's a serious security problem. The room also smelled moldy, and I think the refrigerator was broken, with stagnant water inside. I didn't see roaches myself, though other reviewers mentioned them and I noticed traps in tight spaces. Under one bed, there were months of dirt; when I shifted the mattress, piles of it fell onto the floor. The price is low, but basic cleanliness and security still matter.
These days I get the room I like without even having to ask, and the rates are affordable for the quality of the stay. I've returned to this Red Roof Inn many times. My first visit wasn't great, but the stays since then have been outstanding, and the rooms remind me of trips to Leesburg. I haven't had pest problems here, even though I've run into them at more expensive hotels. The front desk service has also been excellent. I'm happy with this location and intend to keep coming back. I'd recommend it, and I think joining Choice as a member makes the experience better.
There are plenty of food places nearby, and the hotel is served by public transportation. The bed is a good size, but it squeaks terribly. Room 131 has a serious roach problem, mostly throughout the bathroom area. I've killed at least ten so far. The man at the front desk wasn't friendly.
We appreciated having a bus stop right outside, since we don't drive. Olive Garden is next door and Waffle House is beside it. Most of the staff were pleasant and polite, especially housekeeping, and the young men at the desk tried to help. But there were so many problems during our stay that guests should be reimbursed for amenities that were unavailable or didn't exist. The entrance locks were broken and left unrepaired, which felt unsafe because anyone could get in or out. The laundry machines didn't work, and when we asked about them and the doors, we were told they were waiting for repair people. There was no Wi-Fi we could access, even with the password. The bathroom by the front desk was out of order, breakfast was very limited, and the refrigerator in our room was too small for much. There was no dolly, so we had to haul our bags to the second building at the far end of the parking lot. Two kind men helped us carry them the rest of the way. We also couldn't find a broom and dustpan; I asked at the desk twice and was told there weren't any, so we couldn't even sweep before leaving. One staff interaction was especially upsetting. I took our dirty bed linens to the women working in the laundry room, where staff wash them, and asked for a blanket. When I returned with another load, the younger woman held out her phone and asked me to say hello. A man I recognized from the front desk was on the call. He yelled that I wasn't supposed to bring things to the laundry staff and had to give everything to housekeeping. I explained I hadn't known and made an honest mistake, but he said that after more than twenty days I should know, and threatened to add a charge if I did it again. Nobody should be spoken to that way. Customers deserve respect, courtesy, and kindness. Treat us like human beings, not human doings.
Breakfast was finished by 9 a.m., though I wasn't sure what time it began. If you sleep in another hour, there's nothing left afterward except coffee. The free breakfast isn't much to brag about. Luckily McDonald's and Sheetz are close by, or you'd be out of luck.
