Super 8 by Wyndham Richmond/Broad Street

I ended up leaving a night early and driving home. I'd requested wake-up calls for two of my three nights, but neither came. At check-in I had to confirm everything in my reservation, and I could barely hear the person through the partition. It's cheap and the bed was great, but the place needs a lot of repairs. There were loose bathroom tiles, a chipped and stained tub, rusty bedside lamps with torn shades, and unknown marks and cracks on the walls. I also saw roaches and small bugs. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The receptionist was kind, but that was the only good part. The room felt gloomy, there was no breakfast, and the tub wouldn't hold water, so I couldn't take a bath. Nights were freezing, and the heater made a hell of a noise if I turned it on. Staff wouldn't even give me another blanket. There was just one. In France, a place like this is called a “hôtel social,” meaning a homeless shelter. The whole stay was a disaster. I used to think well of Super 8 after staying at several in Tennessee about 10 years ago. They included breakfast, and I didn't freeze at night. Either the Richmond and Tennessee Super 8s are very different, or the brand has seriously declined. And I absolutely can't believe those five-star reviews.

Management has done this to me before. I reserve a king size smoking room, but when I arrive at 3 p.m., they say none is available and put me in a room with double beds and no TV remote. The website says there's complimentary breakfast, but coffee and a cold honey bun, or just coffee, isn't a breakfast you can eat. Management is rude and acts as if they're doing customers a favor, even though we're the ones paying our hard-earned money.

After driving 12 hours, I chose this place to rest before continuing north. The room smelled awful, and in the shower I could see hair and pubic hair. It looked unclean. I politely asked to switch rooms, hoping it was a mistake, but in the next room I found a roach crawling on the bed, then saw more. The bathroom there had bugs too. It was so disgusting that I felt dirty just standing in the room and couldn't stay. I only had that money to spare, and they wouldn't refund it. If they care about guests at all, they should at least clean. Do not stay here.
