The Berkeley Richmond, Outset Collection by Hilton

I photographed a couples session at The Berkeley Hotel, and the elegant interiors and historic architecture made a beautiful backdrop that fit my clients’ vision perfectly. The team was accommodating and professional throughout, and helped make the shoot seamless so we could capture what we wanted. There are lovely photo opportunities inside and outside, and the results turned out beautifully. The rooms are gorgeous, too, and look suited to a luxurious downtown Richmond stay. The bathroom didn’t have basic shower items like body wash, shampoo, or conditioner. When we asked the front desk, they gave us hand soap instead, which didn’t really help. The hotel was okay overall, but this made the stay less comfortable than I’d expected. For a place advertised as 4-star and charging rates in the $300s per night, I expected those basics to be there or at least supplied when requested.

The location worked great for the wine event we were attending, and valet was quick and easy to use. When we arrived, the sofa bed was missing from the room we’d booked with two queens and a sofa bed. It turned out to be a post-renovation change that third-party websites hadn’t updated. They did what they could to make things right, including lowering the room rate and comping the valet. Noah was amazing, though the woman working evenings, Alfreda?, was abrasive for someone in hospitality. It was an interesting experience, but I was happy overall.

We were exhausted after a long drive, and Alfreda made the day so much better. She was the very sweet lady who checked us in and helped with lots of our needs while we traveled with an unfriendly dog. She showed me where to take him for potty breaks and walks, and he even let her give him a treat. Our room had a terrace, which was perfect with a dog. We left him there while we went to the restaurant across the street. I was nervous leaving him alone, but Alfreda said not to worry and that she’d contact me if needed. I can’t say enough about her. Traveling with a dog can be hard.
