Red Roof Inn Walton - Richwood

We were traveling without a reservation, and hotels along I-75 from south of cincy to Lexington were full, so we took a chance on this place. It worked out fine, and the bar within walking distance where we could get a late meal was a bonus. The rooms were old, but ours wasn’t dirty or gross. The shower was fine, the bed was okay, and it had the basics like a hair dryer, iron, soap, and shampoo. The bed was even better than at the Fairfield inn where I stayed the next night. I gave five stars for doing a good job as a budget motel, not because it’s a five-star hotel.

We’ve stayed here five times. The rooms are clean and the people are great. It’s a bit dated, but I’ll take that any day as long as it’s clean and bug-free. I only took off a star because there were no tissues or cups.

After a day of traveling, you want to rest, not scrub down a room you paid for. We cleaned this one ourselves before we felt okay sleeping there, and I’ve never had to do that at a hotel before. There weren’t any bugs, at least. The beds had been made, but that seemed to be the only cleaning. The tub looked like it hadn’t been touched in at least a month, with hair, dirt, and who knows what else. The floors were dirty, and there were food crumbs on the dresser along with a layer of dust. The guy at the desk was the maintenance worker and had to call someone to handle the check-in. I’ve never experienced that before either. I won’t stay here again.

We travel around the country for dog sport events and have stayed at many Red Roofs. This was easily the most run-down and disgustingly dirty hotel we’ve ever paid to stay in, and the worst Red Roof we’ve experienced. We had to be assigned several different rooms. One didn’t have a fridge, another had a broken TV, and every room we saw was filthy. Before bringing our things inside, we used our own cleaning supplies to sweep and spot-mop the floor. There was visible mold and water damage throughout the hotel, along with broken appliances everywhere. We know Red Roofs aren’t five-star hotels, but these accommodations weren’t worth half of what we paid. Zero out of five.
