Super 8 Riverton

The towels were nice, but everything else felt grimy, with bits of mold around. The A/C pumped out so much mold it was like a wet bread factory. Don’t pull back those clean-looking sheets to check the mattress, mine looked like a murder scene. The shower handle was broken and sent the water scalding hot, with no way to cool it except shutting it off. I even took out a screen driver to try fixing it mid-shower. The front and back doors had no latches, so the only security was the room key. Best to keep your shoes on. I support independent businesses, but expect basic hygiene at a hotel. I travel often for work and fun and can overlook some things, but this was subpar even for a budget option.

For $100 a night, I expected better. The floor was sticky, and the bedding was tattered and dingy. The grout was dirty, the paint questionable, and the bathroom door wouldn’t close. Doors, plumbing, electrical, and paint all need maintenance. The outlets look ready to start a fire, and switches and outlets can’t be reached without removing the trim. Some properties are excellent, but this one was a huge disappointment. I’ll probably stop using Super 8.

It’s easy to get to and the location is convenient, but the hotel isn’t great. The rooms are old, the floors and beds creak, and you can hear everything in the halls and nearby rooms. We found hair from several previous guests on the bathroom floor and pillows, including strands caught in the pillowcase fibers. We checked for bedbugs and saw a very stained mattress, though apparently no bedbugs, which was a plus. The pillows were tiny and lumpy, and there was no iron or board in the room. Breakfast wasn’t worthwhile, just a couple of pastries and yogurts set out on the counter when we arrived. Service was okay. The guy came quickly from the back when we rang for check-in, but wasn’t rude or especially warm. When we called the next morning about an iron and board, he said there was one in the room, which there wasn’t. He found one, then had my husband go pick it up and bring it back.

The owner was a lovely, helpful lady, and we had a chance to meet her during our stay a few days ago. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and breakfast was nicely arranged with items refilled promptly. If we get another chance to visit Riverton or Yellowstone, we’d definitely stay here again. It’s great value for money.
