Quality Inn Roanoke near Lake Gaston

This place was so outdated and grubby that we left after checking in and disinfecting everything. The carpet and sofa need replacing, and the door wouldn't close tightly. We'd read the bad reviews just before our reserved stay, which we wish we'd done sooner, so my wife had brought sheets, pillowcases, a comforter, and Lysol. We then realized there were full-time residents living there and packed up for the Hampton Inn right next door. My wife also spotted a lobby sign saying they don't rent to anyone within 25 miles of the motel. That says it all.

For about 70 dollars the rate was decent, and the staff were friendly. The room was okay, with pretty comfortable beds, though the bathroom was tiny. The door rubbed against the toilet when opened because the space was so tight. Breakfast was good, with waffles, eggs, and similar choices. Easy to find off 95, and it worked for a quick overnight with my family.

I wish I'd gotten the name of the woman working the midnight shift on May 20/21. We arrived at 1:00 a.m. after a long day driving and being turned away from every hotel because they were full. She was professional, friendly, courteous, and helpful. We saw her again in the early morning at checkout, still cheerful, and she got us coffee while we picked up breakfast for the road. She wished us safe travels and sent us off smiling. The room wasn't clean, and the rate was extremely high for what we got. But every hotel from Myrtle Beach to here was sold out, so we couldn't be choosy. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and gave us the four hours of sleep we needed. The owners should be grateful to have such a wonderful employee.

There were green spots on the bottom of the dirty pool, and on our last day there was no hot water anywhere in the facility. The front desk manager said too many people were showering. Really? It stayed that way all night and into the next day. The room needed maintenance: dirty walls, cobwebs in the corners, peeling paint and sheetrock by the tub, and holes in the bedsheets. I don't recommend it.
