Outside, people were arguing in the lot, and one man kept circling the hotel and doing burnouts. We were afraid to go out. Inside, the non-smoking room smelled strongly of stale smoke, and I realized in the morning it was between two smoking rooms. The room was fairly clean otherwise, but the sink had trash and used plastic utensils in it. The TV remote didn’t work, and the alarm clock plug was lying loose on the floor with no usable outlet for it. Check-in was awful. A man stood by the entrance smoking, and I had to pass through his smoke. There was nobody at the desk until he finished, when I learned he was the clerk. He wore a wrinkled T-shirt and jeans, slurred and mumbled, and couldn’t check me in after several minutes, so he called someone. A woman came and completed it. Neither person greeted me or smiled, and I felt like a bother. I didn’t call the desk about the room problems because I didn’t want to deal with them again. This was the worst lodging experience of my life. I had two rooms at the Friends and Family rate of $39, and even that wasn’t worth it. I’ve stayed at Choice Hotels 8-10 times over the past year, and they should be embarrassed to be associated with this place. I was embarrassed to bring my family and friends here.

The area outside was covered in piles of trash when I took the dog out, including clothes, open needles, medical bottles, beer cans and bottles, small baggies, and other garbage. There was a strong pot smell coming through the bathroom vent, and random vehicles kept coming and going, possibly for drug deals. We would have felt safer sleeping in the car. Inside, the room smelled like mold. Every lampshade was broken, the furniture was stained, and the refrigerator didn’t work right. The TV only got the Weather channel. The toilet wouldn’t flush, even after someone tried to fix it instead of moving us to another room, and it still didn’t work. The shower was scary and drained poorly. Horrible, scary, dirty. The worst motel I’ve ever stayed in, minus five stars if Google allowed it. Avoid this place like the black plague.

We ended up leaving after speaking with the police. They had knocked on our door twice, and there were always officers around the area. They said they wouldn’t recommend staying there. It seemed like people were coming through for drug deals, and smoke from the people next door smoking weed got into our non-smoking room every day, which smelled as if we’d been smoking in it ourselves. Housekeeping was terrible, the front desk was rude, and the whole stay was awful. Don’t waste your money.

I got there at 1 a.m. and saw what looked like working women along the front. The patched holes outside hadn’t been painted over. In the non-smoking room, the bedding had burn holes, every towel had stains and hair, and the furniture felt sticky. I’m at a loss for words. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

I checked in around 10:30 p.m. and left by 11:15. I expected little from a cheap motel, but the room was dirty and smelled bad, there were holes in the walls, only one light worked, and the smoke detector had been removed. Worst of all, there were bed bugs. I asked the clerk for a refund. She didn’t acknowledge me for a few minutes, then was somewhat nice. She said she couldn’t process it herself and the manager would be in at 10 a.m. I left. Around 1:30 a.m., I noticed another charge. When I returned to speak with the manager, she spent the first couple of minutes texting before acknowledging me, then was very rude. She insisted the refund had already been processed and that the extra funds were part of the process. I handle money, refunds, and customer service for a living, and that didn’t make sense to me. She yelled and argued, wouldn’t listen, and just wanted me to sign a receipt and leave. I work hard for my money and wasn’t going to let them take it, but she refused to do anything. My bank confirmed they had charged me twice and was able to stop the charges while they were still pending. They’d tried to charge me twice for a room I should have been refunded for. I don’t know whether it was ignorance or an attempt to take my money, but either way it was unacceptable. Worst motel I’ve seen and worst customer service experience I’ve had. I’ve heard it may be demolished soon, and I hope that’s true.
